Behind-The-Wheel Driving Lessons

Our Goal
The goal of this course is to help develop knowledge and skills needed to safely, legally and economically operate a motor vehicle. An emphasis is placed on proper decision making and risk management skills while driving. Our Instructors are State of Florida approved and certified.

Behind the Wheel Driving Lessons Course Curriculum

  • DHSMV Road Test Preparation - Be confident and prepared to take your Road Test
  • 4 hrs  6 hrs or 8 hrs of actual behind the wheel driving instruction.

Our Instructors
All OOSI Behind the Wheel instructors are State of Florida certified.

Behind the Wheel Course Content
You will learn competent, responsible driving habits
Develop traffic knowledge
Risk recognition and responsibility
Collision Avoidance
Defensive driving techniques
Proper Turns, Braking and Acceleration
Students will experience actual residential and multi-lane driving situations

You will also learn:

  • The instrument controls of the vehicle
  • How to properly use the Steering Wheel, Brakes and Accelerator
  • How to make proper right and left turns
  • How to drive in light and heavy traffic*
  • How to make safe lane changes
  • How to identify hazards around intersections
  • How to park in a parking space
  • How to make a three-point turn
  • How to properly back your vehicle


DHSMV Preparation* Instructor Discretion - each OOSI instructor makes a decision based on the student's skill level and readiness.

Course Preparations

Students are required to have a learner's permit prior to their first lesson. A Florida Learner's permit can be obtained by completing the State Required 4-hour (TLSAE) course and DMV Learner's Permit Exam. See  1st Time Driver page for additional courses.
